Nicole Ari Parker was born in New York City. She is an American stage and film actress. Her most notable role in the role of Teri, the passionate attorney Teri Jospehson in the Showtime show Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe became her stage name after her wedding. While growing up living in Baltimore, Maryland, she was always interested in acting. In the Maryland high school event during her first years of training, she was awarded the title for the most outstanding actress. The family was born from Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria up to 7 years old, Contractor was a seasoned traveler who enjoyed the world and an array of civilizations at an extremely young age. At the age of seven to nine, the young lady attended boarding schools in London. The family later moved to Toronto where she lived through the majority of her childhood. Contractor was a student and a classical dancer in Toronto. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto, an arts school that focuses on theater and dance. When she was 16, after nearly 10 years of dancing Contractor decided to study acting professionally. When she completed high school, she won an entire scholarship to University of Toronto. At the University of Toronto she completed a Masters in Theatre and also double majored with sociology and psychology. Following a semester at the University, Contractor went to an audition on a call-to-action basis for the play Pericles at the prestigious famous, world-class Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and landed the role of lead. Her work was highly acclaimed in the 92 plays she appeared in. The play won her the 2002 award for the best production of the Year by Canadian critics. Contractor was offered the opportunity to join Stratford's conservatory, where the top eight men and four women are accepted for a course lasting 20 weeks in classical theatre, which she gladly accepted. The role was secured for Contractor for the following play She was also offered Hermia's role in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
