Bonnie Schneider
After earning a Bachelor of Music (Boston University, 1963) and having a look at liberal arts education as a professor (Brown University 1971-1975) Now, I am a strong believer of an integrated approach to learning that focuses on the study of arts alongside other disciplines. This is not surprising to an ethnomusicologist (MA 1967, PhD at UCLA)! The program I am in, ethnomusicology, that I began at UC Berkeley in 1975-1976, is ideally located in the department of music in the College of Letters and Science. I like pursuing multiple pursuits and looking at the whole image. It's a pleasure to teach both graduate and undergraduate students. I am a published and the author of three volumes: Music in India: the Classical Traditions; Thinking Musically as well as Music in Japan, Experiencing Cultural Expression and Music. There are times when I am pursuing primarily academic activities and periods where I include administrative tasks to my agenda (Chair of the Department of Music 1983-88, Dean of Undergraduate Advising 1992-98; Chair of the Deans of the College of Letters and Science 1994-98, Chair of the Group of Asian Studies from 1999, and now Chair of the Department of Music again).
